The global attention and growth for open online education (OOE) caused a situation in which higher education institutions (HEIs) are reconsidering the way they deliver education to their students. Additional pressure to cope with the rise of OOE comes from a growing global higher education market with increasing competition for students. To complicate things further, there is an ongoing rapid diffusion of technology, that gave rise to the development of new educational practices. All these issues generated significant levels of interest in MOOCs as they offer a promising sustainable approach to open up online learning for students all over the world. In this webquest we will familiarize you with the organizational aspects of open online education from a business model perspective. This approach is somewhat unconventional because the educational sector is a non-profit organization, but it may give some new insights into the uniqueness of OOE opposed to traditional ways of education and the different vision on educational models that is needed to further develop OOE on the longer term.
